Captain America and Venom Compare/Contrast Essay
We have come to the end of our hero’s journey Unit and it is now time for you to write a critical literary essay. For this essay, you will compare and contrast the theme of the hero’s journey as seen in both Joe Jonhston’s Captain America: the First Avenger and Ruben Fleischer and Andy Serkis’s Venom.
– All essays should be a minimum of 800 words and a maximum of 1200 words.
– Must be written in formal academic language e.x. no contractions, no personal pronouns, etc.
– You must complete an outline and a peer editing session before submitting your final copy (all documents must be submitted together).
– No plagiarism.
– No outside sources should be used but you must make a works cited list for the movies and properly use in-text citations when paraphrasing or quoting things from the films.
When making works cited lists for movies you follow this format:
(Director’s last name time) -> (Johnston 1:48:41-1:49:00) or (Ruben Fleischer & Andy Serkis 1:48:41-1:49:00)
You will select ONE of the two questions below.
Question 1: How do Captain America: the First Avenger and Venom illustrate that the hero’s journey is also a journey of self-discovery?
To effectively answer this question consider what the main characters learn about themselves throughout their hero’s journey. You will have to find three common lessons between the two heroes.
Question 2: Are both Venom and Captain America heroes? Explain. In what ways do these two hero’s journeys differ?
To effectively answer this question consider what qualities a hero is supposed to possess and argue how both heroes exhibit these qualities.
Good luck everyone!
