From Their Perspective
Journal Entry Assignment 10.1: From Their Perspective…This week’s lecture notes address the different points-of-view from which a story can be told. The stories from this week are all told from the perspective of a narrator in either the omniscient or the third person limited point-of-view. Examine “How Much Land Does a Man Need?”, “Soul Gone Home”, “Button, Button” and “A Rose for Emily” and consider how these stories may have been different if they were told from the first person point-of-view. How might the stories have changed if they were told from the perspective of one of the main characters? What insights would the reader have gained if Emily or one of her servants had told her story? Would the readers have gained a better understanding of why Norma pushed the button on the box if the story had been told in the first person perspective from her point of view?
