summarizes the sources in relation to those headings
synthesizes the sources in relation to one another (puts the article ideas in conversation with one another)
a conclusion (called a “summary”) that
recaps the topics/perspectives that are well-covered by the research
identifies topics/perspectives that are under examined by the research
poses possible questions you would want to answer if you were to develop this topic into a research paper
a references page
Literature Reviews identify the scholarly landscape of a given topic, offering you a chance to discover what ideas need more research or discussion and, eventually, how your own research or argument can add to the conversation.
In other words, the literature review offers you a chance to understand what others have to say about a topic, before you jump in with your own ideas.
