3. Next, you should consult the green handout, Will Durant’s, for specific information pertinent to your thesis. You are now ready to begin taking specific notes for use in your paper.

4. You must word process your paper: double-spaced text in a serif typeface (Times New Roman or Georgia will work) of 12-point size. Do not justify the lines of text at the right margin (MLA asks for flush left and ragged right margins). Paper needs running heads: number all pages consecutively throughout the paper in the upper right-hand corner, one- half inch from the top and flush with the right margin. Type your last name before the page number, as a precaution in case of misplaced pages.

I expect you to quote from at least two sources: just use the Durant and Churchill texts. You shouldn’t quote from Fry’s text because his generalizations go little beyond Common Knowledge. However, your Works Cited page must contain all three sources because you consulted them.

6. To demonstrate your understanding of the citation process, your paper must include at least:

a. One direct quotation of fewer than four lines to be embedded in the text.

b. One extended or block quotation, a direct quotation of four lines or more. Set the quote off from your text by beginning a new line, indenting one inch from the left margin (ten spaces or two tabs), without adding quotation marks. A colon generally introduces a quotation displayed in this way.

c. One paraphrase: taking the author’s original presentation and restating it using your own words and sentence structures.

7. This paper is to be a short argumentative essay about the reign of Mary Tudor. The essay should be 3-4 pages in length (you can provide more if you desire), and will include an introduction and a conclusion. You need to base your discussion on the three handouts provided: yellow, blue, and green. Begin your argument by stating your thesis in the last sentence of your introduction and support it with evidence throughout the paper using MLA documentation. This paper must also include the Works Cited page.
